Trader vs Investor?

Trader or investor? I guess this is the question that's troubling many aspiring traders or investors. Trader and investor are fundamentally different and you need to be clear on your trading or investment strategy to be successful. Switching back and forth from trader to investor will be disastrous to your financial well being and that is certainly not advisable. I would consider myself a momentum trader, employing a unique algorithm that was designed and simulated on a specific index (Straits Times Index). Why index? Index is preferred over equity as it is not easily manipulated. The objective of this algorithm is to outperform the selected index - Straits Times Index.

"Be fearful when others are greedy and greedy when others are fearful". I believe many would have read this famous quote by Warren Buffett. This is exactly what makes him successful, the contrarian approach in buying when others are fearful. This is the time when most equities are on fire sale and value investor like Warren Buffett will see value in some of the quality stocks that are selling at half or less than their intrinsic value. Unfortunately, the same principle does not hold for this style of trading. As a momentum trader, you should not be fearful or greedy. Time your entry and exit point based on your preset strategy and maintain a rational approach in making that buy or sell decision. Know the reason that you are selling or buying and this is the beginning of your journey to be a successful trader.
